When you set up your new device, you can move your data from your old Android device to your new Android device.
Important:
- If you are transferring data from an old Android device to a Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro, visit the Pixel Help Center.
- Samsung devices offer several data transfer options. Learn more about Samsung Smart Switch.
- Some of these steps work only on Android 10 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.
- You need an internet connection to copy data from one device to the other. We recommend you connect both of your devices to Wi-Fi.
- You can use the cable or wireless option to transfer data. Both methods support the same data. If you use a cable, make sure that the cable fits into both of your devices. If it doesn't fit, you may need to purchase an adapter.
- You can only perform data transfer once. We recommend you do this during setup as the option may not be available afterwards.
- If an organization, like a business or school, manages your Android phone, you may not be able to transfer all data.
Before you transfer
- Make sure both of your phones are charged.
- Get a SIM card tool to swap SIMs.
- Set aside some time. Data transfer can take from a few minutes to a few hours.
- Check storage on both your old and new devices. If you don’t have enough storage on the new device, you can choose which data to transfer.
- Samsung devices have other ways to copy data from your old phone. Learn more about Samsung Smart Switch.

Tip: You can change your phone’s language or vision settings now if needed.
Step 2: Connect to Wi-Fi or a mobile network
