Play music & videos on your Google Assistant device

You can ask your Google Assistant to cast media to your Google Assistant smart TV, speaker, Smart Display, or Smart Clock. You can't play or cast videos on Smart Clocks, but you can ask a Smart Clock to play videos on a smart TV or Smart Display.

Important: The languages you can use depend on the device. Learn which languages work on your device.

Step 1: Connect a device to your Assistant

After you connect a TV, speaker, Smart Display, or Smart Clock, you can ask your Assistant to control that device.

Note: If you want to play media only on a Smart Display, you can skip this step. To use your Smart Display to control media on other Google Assistant devices, complete this step.

  1. On your phone, open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the top left, tap Add Add and then Set up device.
  3. From here, you can add new devices or existing devices:
    • New devices: Under "New devices," tap Set up new devices in your home
    • Existing devices: Under "Works with Google," tap Have something already set up? and then the manufacturer.

Step 2: Link music & video apps

Select apps you want to play music and videos from. For example, you can choose Spotify for music or Netflix for videos.
