I've sent an email to a wrong user id. That email contained important information. How to unsend it
I've made a big mistake while sending an important mail containing personal information. I sent it to a wrong unknown user id. Now, I wanna unsend it but time over for unsending. Now, I feel insecurity for my personal data.
How to deal with it? I beg for help from experts...
you cant retract a sent mail but for future enable the setting for undo send ( click the gear icon in gmail > settings > general > undo send > enable > set delay time > save )
note it only gives you up to 30 seconds max IF you dont click on anything else for those 30 seconds because all it really does is DELAY sending
after you send an email you will see this : Your message has been sent. Undo View message
p.s even it was possible - that email could have been forwarded automatically or manually or printed or downloaded so .......there is no way to guarantee you retract the only copy
If you're using Gmail, you can take back an email right after sending it, but only for a short time (up to 30 seconds). Just click the "Undo" button that shows up at the bottom left of your screen right after you send the email. If that time has passed, you can't take back the email.
In this case, consider sending a follow-up email to the unintended recipient, politely requesting them to disregard and delete the previous email due to an error in sending. It's also a good idea to resend the correct information to the intended recipient.
For future references:
While composing an email, In the bottom right of the window, click Turn on confidential mode

Set an expiration date and passcode. These settings impact both the message text and any attachments.
If you choose "No SMS passcode," recipients using the Gmail app will be able to open it directly. Recipients who don't use Gmail will get emailed a passcode.
If you choose "SMS passcode," recipients will get a passcode by text message. Make sure you enter the recipient's phone number, not your own
This will help you to safeguard yourself from sending the email having confidential information.
