Timeline helps you go back in time and remember where you’ve been by automatically saving your visits and routes to your Google Maps Timeline on each of your signed-in devices. You can edit your Google Maps Timeline or delete your Timeline data at any time.
- When you back up your Timeline data, Maps saves an encrypted copy of your data on Google’s servers.
- As long as you’ve turned on backup, you can import your data onto a different device, even if you lose or damage your device.
Since the data shown on your Google Maps Timeline comes directly from your device, Timeline is not available for Maps on your computer. To use Google Maps Timeline, download the Google Maps app.
You’re in control
Timeline is off by default for your Google Account and can only be turned on if you opt in.
When our systems indicate you may be under 18, this feature will remain turned off or unavailable. Learn more here.
You'll keep your Timeline based on your auto-delete settings, or until you delete it. You can turn off or delete all, or only parts of your Timeline for your account at any time in My Google Activity or your Timeline.
